Announcing the Professional and Personal Restoration Study by Dr. Erin Frey, Yale School of Management

By Erin Frey

I am a professor at Yale School of Management, and I am collaborating with the White Collar Support Group to understand how people change after being convicted of white collar crime.

My research focuses on professional identity — how people define themselves through their work, and what happens when that identity is disrupted. For white collar justice-impacted individuals, the disruption is total and often sudden. Career, reputation, professional network, financial stability — all of it can be gone within months of an indictment.

The question I'm trying to answer is: what does professional and personal restoration actually look like? What pathways do people take? What helps? What doesn't? And what can institutions, employers, and policymakers do differently?

I'm inviting WCSG members and others in the white collar justice community to participate in the study. Participation involves a 60-90 minute interview and is completely confidential. Your experiences and insights will help us build an evidence base for the kinds of policy and practice changes that could actually make a difference.
